Obituary for Norman "Norm" Aunan

NORMAN AUNAN Norman "Norm&" Sigvern Aunan, 84, a long time resident of Atlantic, passed away peacefully at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center on the evening of Saturday, May 22, 2010. Norm was born the son of Ingebrigt Sivertson and Ingeborg Nicolena (Gunderson) Aunan on September 7, 1925 in Sioux City, Iowa. He attended school and graduated from Sioux City Central High School. He received a BA from Morningside College in Sioux City and enlisted to serve in the U.S. Air Force in 1943, during WWII. He was married to Janet Elsie Chilton on June 28, 1947 in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple was blessed with a family of six children. Norm was salesman and territory supervisor for Cities Service Oil Company for seventeen years and was a school supply salesman with Metropolitan Supply Company. Norm was active and served as president of Atlantic Rotary International service club; he served as a board member of Heritage House and Atlantic YMCA. His interests and hobbies included golf, fishing and sports. He enjoyed family, Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, music and theology. His special accomplishments were those of being a dad, loving his Lord, trips to Norway with his brothers, Canadian fishing trips, Arizona golf, and Colorado trips. He will be ever remembered as a man of integrity, loyalty, gentleness, and honesty. His family and friends will treasure fun times with Norm and will look forward to joining him in the adventures he will surely be pursuing in Heaven. His survivors include his wife of 62 years; children, Douglas C. Aunan and wife Carol of Coralville, IA and children, Brian and wife Debbie and great grandsons, Landon, Lincoln, and Liam, and daughter Karen Smith and husband Adam of Milwaukee, WI, and daughter Kristin Aunan of Coralville, IA; Thomas W. Aunan and wife Sue of Iowa City, IA and children, Elizabeth Cramer and husband Todd of Iowa City, IA, Jeff Aunan, Katie Aunan and Jill Aunan, all from Iowa City, IA; Catherine A. and John Paul of Henderson, IA, and children, Matthew Paul and wife Bethany and great grandchild Christian, Emily Collis and husband Michael of North Liberty, IA and their children, Grace, Sarah, and Noah, and David Paul and his wife Carlie of Chicago, IL; Barbara K. Piittmann of Hancock, IA and her children, James Piittmann of Omaha, his fiancé Lindsay of Elk Horn, NE, Andrew Piittmann of Council Bluffs, IA, and Eric Piittmann of Oakland, IA; and John D. Aunan and his wife Monica of Waukee, IA: and children, Benjamin Aunan in the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point NY, Callie Aunan and Ezekiel Aunan of Waukee, IA; brothers, Bernard (Lorie) Aunan, of West Des Moines, IA, Milton (Bunny) Aunan of Johnston, IA and Bert (Sharon) Aunan of Clive, IA, sister, Maureen (Jim) Erwin of Spencer, IA and cousin Mae Vallentine of Little Rock, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Karen Louise Aunan. Funeral Information There will be open visitation at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, from 8:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. daily until his family will be present to meet with relatives and friends, also at Rolands from 5:00 P.M. to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, May 25. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday May 26 at the Roland Funeral Home, officiated by Mike Eells of the Atlantic Gospel Chapel. The committal service will take place at 3:30 P.M. in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa following lunch at the Atlantic Gospel Chapel.
