Obituary for Lawrence Lewis "Larry" Anstey

Lawrence (Larry) Lewis Anstey Lawrence (Larry) Lewis Anstey , the son of Charles and Marcella Anstey, died at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa on November 4, 2008 at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 5 days. Larry was born at the family farm at Massena, Iowa on April 29, 1936. He was baptized and confirmed at the Reno St. Timothy Catholic Church. He attended elementary school at Edna Township and then attended Exira Community Schools graduating in 1954. After graduating, he attended college at Iowa State University and the College of the Redwood in California. When his father passed away, Larry returned to Massena to help with the farming and to care for the hereford cattle. On April 29, 1959 he was united in marriage to Mary Anne McLaren at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Massena. Four children were born to this union, Gregory, Anthony, Kelli and Jodi. Larry worked as a farmer until he was employed as a janitor at the Atlantic Community Schools. He received employee of the year in 2000. Larry enjoyed playing sports with all the kids from Lincoln School during recess and also having open gym. He was employed there for 27 years until his retirement. Before and after his retirement he and his sons were painters and he umpired softball games for the league and coached little league. Larry loved sports and was an active fan of Atlantic Trojan sports, Iowa State, LA Dodgers and Notre Dame. He also loved showing calves and raising his cattle on the farm. Larry"s greatest joy was being with his family and his grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, Gene Anstey and Leo Anstey; his brothers-in-law Eugene Carper, Lloyd Worthington and Ambrose Kommes; sister-in-law Ruby Anstey and nephew James Kommes.He was a grandson of the late George and Ada Anstey. Larry"s survivors include his children, Gregory Anstey, Anthony Anstey, Kelli Anstey and Jodi Littleton and husband Delbert all of Atlantic; his grandchildren Chris Anstey and his fiance Kendall Drake and Shea Young, all of Atlantic; his sisters Marie Carper of Sun Valley, CA, Geraldine Kommes of Exira, IA and Rita Worthington of Atlantic; brothers Charles Anstey of Massena, Thomas Anstey of Arlington, NE, Dr. John Anstey and wife Kathleen of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law Beverly Anstey of Omaha, NE and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Funeral InformationServices for Larry will be held Monday, November 10, 2008 at 10:00 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic with Father Dan Siepker officiating. Interment will be in the Reno St. Timothy Cemetery south of Cumberland. There will be an open visitation at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic until Sunday. There will be a scriptural prayer service on Sunday afternoon, November 9, at 3:00 with a visitation with the family to follow until 5:00.
