Obituary for
Richard Floyd "Dick" Anderson
RICHARD “DICK” FLOYD ANDERSON
Richard “Dick” Floyd Anderson , 80, of Atlantic peacefully passed away November 2, 2012 at Heritage House. Dick was born at home to Richard Alvin and Treva (Carson) Anderson, of Atlantic on July 2, 1932, the third of nine children. He attended Atlantic schools and remained a lifelong resident working as a teenager at the Atlantic Grand Theatre while also working construction. He began work at the Economy Shoe Store on downtown main street in 1949 and on June 11, 1950, he married the love of his life, Annie “Dee” Deloris Roberts, with whom he shared 62 wonderful years. He eventually became the owner of the shoe store and retired from there in 1995. Dick always had time for a friendly conversation or a cup of coffee with anyone stopping in for a visit to the shoe store and had a great memory for shoe sizes. Dick begrudgingly went to his first square dance lesson and went on to become a square dance caller and teacher with his good friend, Mac McCormick, forming many lasting friendships in the square dancing community. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, bowler, volunteer fireman and golfer but his passion was as a devoted grandfather to his 4 grandchildren, who remember his loving enthusiasm for ALL that they did. Through his eyes, his grandchildren were always “perfect” and always a “keeper”. His 5 great-grandchildren, even as his memory faded, always brought a twinkle to his eye. Dick will be deeply missed by family and friends and his time with them will always be cherished.
Left to celebrate his memory are his wife, Dee; his daughter Barbara (Larry) Witmer of Solon and son Richard (Brenda) Anderson of Boone; grandchildren, Autumn (Kyle) Switzer of Robins, Ryan (Sara) Anderson of Ankeny, Jordan (Rachel) Witmer of Cedar Rapids, and Ross Anderson of Manhattan Beach, CA; great-grandchildren, Kolten and Corbin Switzer of Robins, Bek & Ella Anderson of Ankeny, and Kelvin Witmer of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Jerry (Norma) Anderson, Russell (Terry) Anderson, Gary (Marcia) Anderson a sister, Peggy (Dave) Walton and many other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were both his parents, Richard and Treva, sister, Norma Christensen, brothers Kenneth, Robert and Jim.
