Obituary for Carol Andersen

CAROL J. ANDERSEN

Carol J. Andersen, 79, passed on to be with her Lord Jesus on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa. Carol was born May 19, 1933 to Glen and Gladys Porch of rural Anita, Iowa. After graduating from Anita High School she went to Beauty School in Washington State, finishing in Des Moines, Iowa at Iowa School of Beauty.
On February 2, 1964 she married Howard Andersen. After living in Atlantic for a brief time, the family moved to their farm just north of I-80. Carol enjoyed caring for the yard, gardening and socializing with the neighbors there. They played Pinochle with their friends monthly for many years. Eventually they built a beauty shop on the farm. Carol not only styled hair at Carol's Country Beauty Shop but offered a listening ear and a kind word to all who entered. When Howard retired from farming they moved to Atlantic and opened a flower shop. She enjoyed brightening people's day with beautiful flowers.
Carol's faith in God was central to her life. She shared her faith openly with family and friends. Howard and Carol found their church home at the Atlantic Gospel Chapel. She participated in Christian Women's Club, the Gideon's Auxiliary and hosted many Bible Studies over the years.
Carol's greatest joy was her family. She was interested in every aspect of her children's lives. Her love extended to her siblings and their families as well.
She is preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, Esther Porch; two brothers, Don Michael Porch and Kent Stockham; two sisters-in-law, Dixie Porch and Sandra Andersen; and two brothers-in-law, Claude Andersen and Donald Hartkopf.
She is survived by her loving husband, Howard; t heir children, Sam (Jody) Andersen and Jody (Mark) Stevenson; four grandchildren, Amber (Ryan) DeYoung, Seth (Becky) Stevenson, Eric Andersen, Max Andersen; and one great-granddaughter, Summer Andersen. She is also survived by sisters, Patty Stockham of Anita, Peggy Hartkopf Robinson of Atlantic, Jane (Lyle) Celemsen of Clarion; her brother Norman Porch of Bremerton, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
