Alyce Marie (Nichols) Lane, 83, passed away Friday, May 6, 2022, at Heritage House in Atlantic after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Alyce was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
She was born on December 3, 1938, to Edwin and Frances (Dealy) Nichols and was raised in Lewis, Iowa. After dating for three years, she married the love of her life, Bob Lane, in November of 1956.
Alyce worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a long-distance operator and after her children were in school, Alyce worked as a lunch lady, serving meals at Lincoln Elementary School. She later worked for the NRCS until retiring.
Yearly summer vacations with Bob’s brothers and families were always a highlight. Alyce enjoyed playing cards in two bridge clubs, was an avid reader, and was a good cook, cinnamon rolls being her specialty.
Alyce is survived by her husband, three daughters, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two on the way. Survivors include her husband, Bob; daughter, Pam Lane and her son, Thomas Vacek; daughter, Robin Swanson and her children, Adam Swanson, Chelsea (Jonathan) Idona and their children, Addison, Charlotte and Giovanni, and Bailee Swanson; daughter, Gerri (Roger) Blake and their daughters, Courtney (Matt) Brewer and their children, Arbor and Avery, Amanda (Tiffany) Majeski-Blake, Alisha (Tyler) Wagner and their daughter, Spencer, and Katelyn (Sam) Bateman.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Marilyn Kappler.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14th at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic. Immediately following the service, the family invites you to join them in the fellowship hall for lunch and fellowship.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Heritage House Good Samaritan Fund and the First United Methodist Church Foundation.
