Velma A. Ackerman
Velma Augusta (Bees) Ackerman, age 93, passed away October 24, 2004 at the home of her daughter Sherryl Kehm in Elkhorn, Nebraska. The daughter of William John and Amelia Otelia Kindt Bees, she was born December 22, 1910 near Humbolt, Kansas. The family moved to the Walnut, Iowa area when she was a child, later moving to the Lewis area where she graduated from the Lewis High School in 1928. She taught in the rural schools prior to her marriage to Ross Ackerman, which took place at her country home, May 24, 1934. Following her marriage, she lived in Griswold all of her married life. After the passing of Ross, she moved to the Omaha area to be closer to her daughter. Velma was a member of Civics and Current Events clubs in Griswold and taught Sunday School for a number of years at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa where she was active in church affairs and a member of the Love Circle. She was also the pianist for "sing alongs" at the Griswold Care Center for twenty years. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 68 years, Ross John Ackerman.
