Ross Ackerman

Ross John Ackerman, 90, of Griswold, passed away Wednesday morning, November 14, 2001, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.The son of John Ross and Mable Alta (Fleming) Ackerman, Ross was born on April 12, 1911 in Pleasant Township east of Griswold, Iowa. When he was a small child the family moved west of Lewis, Iowa where he attended a rural school and graduated from the Lewis High School in 1928. Ross farmed with his father moving to Griswold in 1932. His marriage to Velma Bees took place May 24, 1934 at Velma's parents' country home near Lewis. They lived in Griswold and farmed until retiring. Ross was a former member of the Telephone Board, Lions club and a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic.Surviving are his wife Velma; three sons, Larry Ackerman of Griswold, Marlin Ackerman and David Ackerman, both of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one daughter Sheryl Kehm and husband Jim of Elkhorn, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, Anne Ackerman, Patrick Ackerman, Tyler Kehm, Ross Kehm, Kara Radwin and husband Scott, Mark Ackerman, Michelle Klinkafus and John Ackerman and wife Amy.He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lyle (in infancy) and Donald.Funeral InformationServices for Ross will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2001, at 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic with Pastor Allen D. Hellwege officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
