Obituary for
Roland E "Rollie" Ackerman
Our husband, father, father-in-law, brother-in-law, grandpa and friend, son of Casper and Eva Colburn Ackerman, Rollie came to us on July 11, 1914. He left us on his own tee off on Monday, Nov. 14, 2011. He married Dorothy E. Darrow on May 4, 1935 in Griswold, IA.
Memorial services for Rollie will take place at a later time in Iowa.
Here’s to the man whose warmth, wisdom and humor have earned him the respect of his friends and family.
His family and friends will remember the joyous team spirit shared in his bowling, golfing and men's barber shop chorus days.
Rollie loved our country and served in the U.S. Army during WWII where he received a purple heart.
Here’s to the man who knew how it felt to lose as well as to win. The man who could see a cherished dream wasted away and start right back to work on a new one with faith in himself and hope for the future.
Here’s to the man who didn’t claim to know the answers until he had tried to understand the questions. He was a man with the strength to hold an unpopular opinion and the courage to change his mind.
Rollie was loved by his wife of 74 years, Dorothy; daughter: Charlotte Hammond (Bill Hatcher); grandson: Jay (Tara) Hammond; great granddaughters: Mya and Ana Hammond; sister-in-law: Jeanne Huish and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cass and Eva Ackerman, father and mother-in-law: Clair and Harriett Darrow; son: Robert; son-in-law: Craig Hammond; brothers-in-law: Larry Darrow, Charles Huish; sister-in-law: Lola (Darrow) Berg; and several uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Dad, you were loved and will be missed by many. Get a heavenly hole-in-one.
Family and friends are invited to sign Roland’s online guest book at www.coffeltfuneral.com and at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Coffelt Funeral Service. Roland Funeral Service is also caring for Rollie’s family, and final memorial arrangements will be made at a later date in 2012.
