EDWARD "ED" PORTER ACKERMANDec 4, 1920 - February 18, 2010Edward Porter Ackerman, 89, of Marion , died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at the Oldorf Hospice Center in Hiawatha. Edward was born Dec 4, 1920, to Royal Valentine and Hattie Mabel (Geisz) Ackerman near Grant, Iowa. He attended Grant School and graduated from Griswold High School. On April 12, 1942, he was married to Edna Luella Nelson at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. They had two sons, Steven Ray and Kenneth Lyle. Edward served in the Navy during WWII, and was employed at Joyce Lumber Co., Voss Manufacturing, and as rural mail carrier. Edward was a resident of Atlantic, Iowa, until moving to Marion, Iowa, in 2007.Edward is survived by son, Steve and wife Joan; two grandchildren, Julia Ackerman, and Anthony Ackerman and wife Cindy; three great-grandchildren, Miranda and Shawn Vollmer, and Tyler Ackerman, all of Marion, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna, his son, Kenneth; brothers, Floyd, Clarence, and Harold; sisters, Mabel Hill and Velma Johnson; and granddaughter-in-law, Becky Ackerman.His funeral will be Saturday, February 27 at 10:00 at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Graveside service will follow at the Atlantic Cemetery. Pastor Dennis Meyer will officiate There will be open visitation at the funeral home daily from 8:00 â 5:30 with a family visitation on Friday evening from 6-8 pm.The Roland Funeral Home is caring for Ed"s family and the arrangements. His funeral will be Saturday, February 27, at 10:00 at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Meyer from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic officiating.
