ETHEL WOOD Ethel Wood, 87, formerly of the Walnut area, passed away at Bickford Cottage in Omaha, Nebraska on Thursday, September 1, 2011. Ethel Emma Wood was born the daughter of Jerry Frederick and Nora (Linkletter) Glissmann, on April 3, 1924, in Pottawattamie County in Iowa. She was schooled in the rural Walnut area and eventually worked for many years as a secretary for the Jean Christensen Insurance Company. Ethel was married to Eugene A. Wood on March 19, 1949 in Omaha, Nebraska. They farmed south of Walnut and became the proud parents of two sons. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and also her neighborhood card club. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her survivors include her sons, Steve Wood and his wife Judy of Omaha, NE and Scott Wood and his wife Sue of Atlantic, IA; four grandchildren, Michael Wood and wife Catherine of Omaha, NE, Kristie Wood of Omaha, NE, Jason Wood of Seattle, WA, Michelle Fisher and husband Mike of Grinnell, IA; three great grandchildren, Maddie Wood, Dean Wood, and Angelica Fisher; her sisters, Dorothy Beckendorf of Omaha and Hazel Henningsen of Walnut; and her brother-in-law, Vernon Karstens of Avoca. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, her parents, Jerry and Nora; her sister Jeraldine Karstens; and brothers-in-law, Clifford Beckendorf and Wilbur Henningsen. There will be Open Visitation at Roland Funeral Home September 3rd through the 6th: Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon; Sunday and Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be no specific time set for Family Visitation. Ethel's Funeral will take place Wednesday, September 7th at 10:30 a.m. - to be held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Pastor Ken Davidson will officiate. The Committal Service will take place in Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa. Roland Funeral Home of Atlantic, Iowa is caring for Ethel's family and the arrangements.
