Wayne McFadden

Wayne Morris McFadden, age 85, a long time resident of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away early Thursday morning, March 31, 2011, at the Cass Country Hospice Center in Atlantic. Wayne was born to Floyd Leroy and Eva (Abhau) McFadden on July 30, 1925 in rural Atlantic, Iowa. He attended country school south of Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1943. He joined the U.S. Army and served in occupied Japan after the war. On September 20, 1963, he was united in marriage to Shirley Lois Marxen in Lyman, Iowa. He continued farming and lived his entire life south of Atlantic. Wayne had a custom corn shelling business and sheared sheep spending a number of years preparing lamb for the Cass Country Fair at the 4-H food stand.. He also demonstrated wool spinning at the Hitchcock House, Living History Farm and the Danish Museum. He is survived by his wife Shirley of Atlantic; children, Michael Marshall of Brayton, IA, Denise Kinnison and husband Keith of Iowa City, IA, Oliver McFadden and wife Diane of rural Atlantic, Jon McFadden of rural Atlantic, Lisa Friesleben and husband Todd of Atlantic and Erin McFadden of Atlantic; three sisters, Opal Frisbie of Adair, IA, Donna Petersen of Alta, IA, and Carolyn Sipes of Osceola, NE; one sister-in-law Helen McFadden of Elk Horn, IA; one brother-in-law Fred Lovett of CA; 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Bruce McFadden and two sisters, Genevieve Lovett and Kathleen McFadden; brothers-in-law, Bill McNally, Wayne Petersen, Roy Frisbie and Kenneth Sipes.Funeral Information There will be an open visitation at the Roland Funeral Home on Friday 8-5:30, Saturday morning 8-12, and Sunday 1-5 with the family meeting friends Sunday evening, April 3, 5:00 - 7:00. Services for Wayne will be held on Monday, April 4, at the Roland Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dale Kesterson from the First Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
