Obituary for
Marie Elise "Michou" Laufer (Unknown)
Marie Laufer
Marie Elise Laufer, better known as Michou, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa, at the age of 91 years.
Marie Elise (Minchella) Laufer was born in Cannes, France on July 16, 1921. She was given up at birth by her parents and raised in foster homes until she was at an age she could work as a nanny. The money she earned was put in savings for her until she reached the age of twenty one. She and a female friend went to French Morocco and opened up a bar-restaurant business which they operated for two years. This venture did not prove profitable, so it was closed and she was employed at a restaurant-bar owned by Robert K. Laufer and his partner. Marie and Bob Laufer were married in French Morocco in 1947. They sold that business and traveled to Florida in 1951. They resided there until Bob’s father called and asked Bob to come to Atlantic and assist him in operating Challenge Feeds which he owned. After about ten years, Bob purchased the business and operated it until it was sold in 1973.
Marie (better known as Michou) was an excellent golfer and extremely proud of all the trophies she won playing golf. Marie loved small children, but, unfortunately she and Bob were childless. There are no known survivors.
There will be an open visitation at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic on Thursday and Friday, August 16 and 17, from 8:00 to 5:00 with a visitation for friends Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00. A private graveside service for Michou will be held Saturday morning, August 18, at 10:00 A.M. at the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery.
The Roland Funeral Home is handling arrangements for Michou and condolences may be left on their website at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.
